Local Authority - Summer Term Chairs Briefing

The termly Chair's briefing took place in the Peel Room of Bury Town Hall on Tuesday 16th April.

There was an update from Karen Dolton, the Executive Director of Children's Services, who re-iterated her commitment to education, schools and governance. A presentation was given by MPLOY on a careers support service they are providing for more vulnerable high school pupils.

Steve Tilley gave an update on the development of School on a Page - with version 2 soon to be released and branded as the School Education Profile.

National Governance Association Northwest Regional Conference

A number of Bury governors and trustees attended the NGA NW regional conference on Saturday 2nd March.

The conference was opened by Emma Knight, the NGA Chief Exec and there were presentations from:

Ethical Leadership in Education

The Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL), the National Association of Head Teachers (NAHT) and the NGA have recently published a framework for ethical leadership in education. You can access the report by clicking on the link below:

Bury Council Advice on School Governance Arrangements

Following the council's paper on Bury's education landscape, the Education and Inclusion team at the local authority were asked to prepare a paper to give advice to governing bodies if they are considering their governance arrangements.

Good attendance at BGA Spring Term Meeting

Over 20 governors and trustees attended the Spring Term BGA meeting held in the Peel Room on Wednesday 6th March.


BGA Chair Richard Ainsworth welcomed everyone and introduced Suzanne Pendleton, one of Bury's newly appointed Primary Inclusion Officers, who gave a presentation on her role and the partnership work that is now taking place around school inclusion. BGA Spring Term Meeting - 6th March



The Bury Governor Association Spring Term meeting will take place in the Peel Room at Bury Town Hall at 7.00pm on Wednesday 6th March 2019.

The guest speakers will be Gareth Rennie and Suzanne Pendleton, Bury's new Inclusion officers who will talk about their role and the intended impact in the key priority area of school inclusion they will also talk about the the Early Help model that is developing - to give support to our more vulnerable pupils.

There will be the usual update from the BGA executive and the Bury Governance Development Chair.

The Bury Governor Association Spring Conference will be hosted by Bury College on Saturday 27th April 2019.

The BGA are delighted welcome back Dr Tony Breslin as the key note speaker and the theme will focus on curriculum and inclusion.

The conference will open for registration at 09.00 and will start at 09.30. It is scheduled to finish at 12.00 and will be followed by a networking lunch.

Spaces are limited to 100 - so booking early is advisable.
