The BGA is delighted to report that Bury Council have appointed a Principal Governance Officer. This is a new post in the council’s structure and the investment demonstrates a clear commitment to supporting governance in Bury’s schools, whether maintained or as part of a MAT. The postholder is Amy Appleyard and she started in her new role on Tuesday 14th March.

Amy’s background is in education and she has worked in high schools in Rochdale and Bolton before taking up a role in the governor services team in Bolton. She will therefore bring a wealth of experience to the new role. The PGO post will sit as part of the council’s Quality, Standards and Performance section and Amy reports to Wendy Jackson.

The BGA welcomes Amy to her new position at Bury and looks forward to working with her. Amy will be in attendance at the next BGA meeting on Thursday 30th March where governors and trustees will have an opportunity to meet her.
